How to Set Up a Google Conversion

Setting up Google conversions helps you track the results of your ads — like sign-ups, purchases, or other key actions visitors take on your website. Conversion tracking is essential for measuring the success of your advertising campaigns.

🔗 This set up is entirely on your Google Ads account and your website. For the full official guide, visit Google Ads Help.

Step 1: Connect Your Website

  1. In your Google Ads account, go to Goals → Summary.

  2. Select + Conversions on a websiteAdd URL.

  3. Enter your website domain and click Scan.

    • If a Google tag or Google Analytics property is detected, you’re all set to start measuring conversions.

    • If not, you’ll be prompted to set up a Google tag — follow the instructions to install it on your site.

Step 2: Create a Conversion Action

  1. Choose the conversion category (like “Purchase,” “Sign-up,” or “Page view”).

  2. If you use Google Analytics 4, you can bulk import events from your linked property or create a new event manually.

  3. Define your conversion:

    • Name the conversion

    • Choose how it’s tracked (by URL or with code)

    • Adjust optional settings like value, count, and attribution model

Step 3: Finalize and Verify

  1. Review your new conversions in Goals → Summary.

  2. Make sure your Google tag is active and firing correctly.

  3. (Optional) Enable Enhanced Conversions to improve accuracy.

  4. To troubleshoot issues, use Google Tag Assistant or review the status in your conversion table.

Tip: If your site already uses Google Analytics 4, connecting it to Google Ads is the easiest way to reuse your existing events for conversion tracking.
